COMPARISON OF PROTON BEAM DOSE PROFILES IN MATRAD AND GEANT4 SIMULATIONS

Proton therapy is a relatively new and highly effective branch of radiation therapy that has become increasingly accessible over the past two decades. To achieve high-quality treatment, it is essential to improve the accuracy of absorbed dose calculations during proton therapy planning. To account for nuclear interactions in dose calculations, it is necessary to use higher-precision Monte Carlo modeling, which requires significant computational resources and calculation time. In this article we compare doses calculated by two software tools, one uses Monte Carlo calculations the other not. In order to compare calculated dose profiles, we study monochromatic proton beams (3 different energies) in water medium. The study investigates absorbed dose profiles obtained using —matRad [1] and Geant4 [2]. Both computational programs are widely used in research as they are open-source softwares. The paper presents the comparison of dose profiles obtained with these programs.
