THE EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

This study aims to examine the effects of domestic violence among university students. A qualitative interview approach was conducted with a total of 10 students from universities in Malaysia who met the inclusion criteria, namely those who have experienced or were currently experiencing domestic violence. Semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions were used to encourage respondents to elaborate and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the issue. The respondents’ feedback regarding domestic violence was divided into two categories: a) mental effects and b) physical effects. Mental effects included depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and difficulty concentrating. Physical effects included bruises, cuts, broken bones, and head trauma. The findings indicate that domestic violence adversely affects both the physical and mental well-being of university students.
